Wordpress is set up by default to ping Ping-O-Matic, which according to its site is, “a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated.” So by default, your Wordpress blog is set up to ping around 20 services. You can also ping manually by going to individual sites and entering your blog/post information. The ping services are set up to automate this tedious task. Ain’t computers grand? Moving on.

So it would seem that the more pinging I do, the more traffic I get, right? Wrong. If you ping a list of services, some of your pings may be duplicated. Then you risk the possibility of being labeled a spammer. Not good. For example, if you ping Ping-O-Matic and Pingoat (both services that provide multiple pings for your post - is this making any sense?), then Technorati would be hit twice. So now a simple process to let the world know about your blog has become complicated. What to do?This is where I rely on other folks to do the legwork and hope the information is valid. Based on my “secondary” research there is a solution. The best explanation comes from Instant Info Online although I would normally be a bit suspect of a source like this due to its sparseness. Other sites seem to concur on the basic idea though. You can read the post to get the full scoop but this is it in a nutshell:

• Some services have disabled their ping URLs and accept pings only from Ping-O-Matic
• It would be best to use Ping-O-Matic and a select list of other individual services
• Using the short list below would give extensive coverage without duplication
• I can’t back any of this up but it is what I do

OK, now we know which services to ping. How do we set up Wordpress to do this automatically? It’s simple really.

In later versions of Wordpress, choose the Settings tab
Then choose Writing
Under Update Services paste the list from above into the box
Don’t forget to SAVE

In older versions of Wordpress you will find the Writing option under the Options tab.

So, there you have it. The quick and dirty ping primer with ideal short list of ping services. Hope this helps you and brings your blog massive traffic.

Rob Benwell has released his third edition of Blogging To The Bank and if you have never read his book, now is the perfect opportunity. It’s precise and to the point. I think you will like it.

However…

There is something in Rob’s sales process I really don’t like. I know I preach that you should watch the successful and do what they do. But don’t do this. When you go to the sales page, you can order Blogging To The Bank at what I would consider a very reasonable price. But if you try to leave the page you get an automated chat popup that will give you a discount! This tactic really bothers me. I think the reasons are obvious so I won’t rant on my soapbox. Bottom line - if you want to order, attempt to leave the page and take advantage of the $10 discount offered by the botgirl. (I don’t like the bragging on the sales page either, but he’s young so I’ll let it pass for now.) You should order Blogging To The Bank in spite of these irritations. Now, with that said, lets move on.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s what Yaro Starak, the guy that runs Blog Master Mind has to say:

“The strategy Rob applies is about leveraging multiple blogs in multiple niches to make a lot of money. This is not about becoming a dominant player - an expert - in one niche subject area that you are passionate about, which is more the “Blog Mastermind school of blogging”.”

“Although the overall strategy might be quite different between what I teach and do and what Rob does, if you break things down, the fundamentals remain the same.”

Yaro goes on to say, “Rob’s system for profitable blogging still relies on the same principles to make it work…it’s all about the process.”

So what does this mean to you? If you want to use blogs to create income, you need a couple of resources. One is free from Yaro himself. It’s called Blog Profit Blueprint and is a great tool. Even more “make money blogging” info is available in the free video tutorials at BecomeABlogger.com. These, coupled with Blogging To The Bank should set you up.

Rob is pretty blunt and to the point in this 50 some-odd page book. “Just the facts, ma’am” for monetizing your blog from somebody who has done it (although there are no personal examples from Rob).  He recommends list building, affiliate marketing (using ClickBank although any decent paying affiliate program would work), and of course describes the proper techniques to use.

Problems

One of the things that is a plus can also be a minus. The brevity of the book means it is all meat. You won’t waste any time here. But I would like to see some more anecdotes and personal examples - hey, any example- of how this has worked in the real world. Yes, I know it works. Show me a case study or two.

Some of the screen shots may be a bit dated (eg. old versions of Wordpress) but it’s no biggie. I already mentioned the discount price problem above (thought you should know that up front, quickly). However, none of the problems should keep you from purchasing.

BOTTOM LINE

Blogging To The Bank 3.0 is about making money with blogs. Rob’s formula is basically:
Research - Build a WordPress Blog - Optimize - Provide Content - Promote
Monetize with ClickBank (or orther affiliate program) , Adsense, and Advertising.
And although the formula seems simple, don’t try to do it just from this post. You need Rob’s insight and step-by-step approach to do it. And then you do it again.

More Hype?  Or Worth Investigating?

To tell you the truth, I really don’t know if it’s worth
buying into. However, I do know it is worth watching. Let’s take a look at why…

The recurring theme of the Internet Marketing Newz site is, “Watch what the pro marketers are doing and do as they do, not necessarily as they say.” PPC Classroom 2.0 is a perfect example of what to watch.
Specifically, here are some things to look at. This is genius.

• Anik has used the tactic of “moving the freeline”
  Simply put, there is a lot of highly valuable information free for the taking, up front, with no purchase necessary. (Fact is, if you are dead broke, there is enough free information out there to give you a leaping head start in internet marketing if you will just listen and take action.) I am especially impressed with PPC Classroom video #2.  Watch this for  solid pay per click tips.
• Do As They Do
  Well, that is what I preach. And the promotional material is full of testimonials of people who have used the PPC Classroom tactics to make quite handsome incomes. What a powerful way to sell! Show people who have done it and invite you to just , “do as they have done.” Plus, the good reputation of Anik’s Affiliate Classroom makes this offer stable as far as inegrity is concerned.
• Use a recognized expert
  Amit Mehta is the million dollar PPC guy who reveals the “secrets.” Well, they are secrets just because you don’t know the info yet. Fact is, PPC is work. But Amit’s methods apparently help you cut the learning curve and put you in profit a lot sooner. I urge you to watch the interviews. You WILL learn about PPC.

So, will I buy PPC Classroom 2.0? Probably. I know PPC is profitable and any edge I can get will help. If nothing else, you should take advantage of the free information. It is well worth your time and watching the launch of this program will give you some great ideas about how to market your products.
